An image of me wearing my tape measure, as usual.
This is me!

Do you want to make your own clothes?

Welcome to the Sewing Mob page. I’m Karen, and this is a new blog for 2023, it’ll change quite a bit for a while as I work out how to use it!

If you’d like to learn to sew, or improve your existing skills, please bookmark my page, check out my social media and come back to check how I’m getting on with adding content!

With over 40 years in the garment industry, I still love to sew. I have a small workroom with some great machines and tools, and I’d like to share my knowledge with others. I’ve chosen this website design, so that I can post articles, images and videos that I hope you’ll find useful.

As a curious beginner in the world of sewing, I quickly discovered that one of the most fundamental skills to master is the art of sewing a seam. It may seem like a simple task, but perfecting this technique is essential for creating a polished final product. Embarking on this journey, I delved into the world of fabrics, threads, and sewing machines, eager to learn how to sew a seam with precision and finesse.

My first seams were sewn by hand, I was 8 years old and fascinated by clothes and fabrics. I wanted to make myself a dress, but I had neither patterns nor fabric! I did have a fair idea of how to hand sew a backstitched seam – my Grandmother had shown me how. To satisfy my curiosity, Granny gave me some remnants of green lurex fabric from her stash, and I set about making a party dress for one of my dolls.

I have shared my knowledge in the sewing guides on the site. I hope that you find them useful as I share four decades of learning about this wonderful skill.

If there are sewing techniques that you would like more advice on, do let me know via the contact page.

Happy sewing!

Karen
